What is the e-Academy?
The Safeguarding Children e-Academy is an innovative solution to enhance the learning process for those individuals and organisations who work with children.
We hope that the e-Academy will play an important role in reaching the vast numbers of people who need appropriate training in areas of child protection, who find it difficult to engage in the traditional classroom based delivery. We envision that the e-Academy will provide an alternative route to an excellent range of learning resources that can be accessed online. Making use of the internet to host the learning resources we are able to eliminate some of the challenges of Lincolnshire being such a widespread, rural county.
Working in partnership with Virtual College, the e-Academy will utilise a virtual learning environment, e-learning modules and online assessment to create a blended learning solution that provides flexible, high quality and consistent provision that engages learners.
Each of the learning modules is interactive incorporating a mixture of scenarios, challenges and progress checks to reinforce the learning process. For a free demonstration of the learning materials learners can visit the e-Academy portal and select 'Product & Courses' and then 'View Demo' for the course in which they are interested.
Benefits of the e-Academy
The use of e-learning can bring a number of benefits, including:
-
Providing a flexible delivery route with learning taking place at a pace, location and time to suit the learner
-
Ensuring that a high quality, consistent message is delivered to learners
-
Improving the engagement and retention of learners
-
Helping to 'close the loop' through online assessment
- Creating a cost effective delivery model.
Recognition of Achievement
The training modules incorporate a number of challenges and questions that will enable the user to determine their level of understanding. When they are ready they can proceed to the online quizzes which will test their knowledge and record the results on their personal training record.
When learners successfully achieve the pass mark in the quiz for an individual module a certificate is 'unlocked' for the learner to print as evidence of their participation and achievement.
What equipment is needed to get started on the e-Academy modules?
All that is needed to access the online learning materials is a computer that has an Internet connection. The system has been optimised to allow minimum access time but a broadband connection is preferable. The modules have been developed using the latest Flash technology which means that Flash Player will need to be installed on your computer. This software is free and is easily downloadable from the Internet. A link to download Flash player is included with the training material.
How much do modules cost?
The e-academy modules are free to organisations who fall under the funding umbrella of the Lincolnshire Safeguarding Board.
Through ongoing negotiations with our e-Academy partners, Virtual College, the LSCB has secured reduced rates with some other groups. Contact us for more details.
Other organisations can make use of Lincolnshire's promotional code when they click to buy a module on the e-Academy site (www.safeguardingchildrenea.co.uk) and enter the code below which will entitle them to a reduced price of £25 per e-learning module license instead of the advertised price of £30. Lincolnshire's code is: SCBLINC
PLEASE NOTE: From 1 November 2008 if learners do not complete their chosen module within 3 months of being sent their password, access to the course may be suspended and a £12.50 administration fee imposed to reinstate their access.
How do I get started?
To access this innovative, flexible way of learning, please complete the online booking form (Online Booking Form), select the course you wish to access and submit your details. Your details will be registered with the e-Academy and you will be contacted by e-mail with your individual login and password details as well instructions on how to do this. This process usually takes no longer than 10 working days- if you do not hear from us within that time please e-mail eacademy@lincolnshire.gov.uk
How long do I have to complete each module?
Learners are asked to complete their learning materials within 3 months of being sent their username and password. For this reason we would suggest that you request access to one module at a time. Where modules are not completed within the 3 month timescale, access to your account may be suspended and an administration fee of £12.50 imposed to reinstate your course.
